Background Tushinde Children’s Trust was founded in the UK in March 2010 and was registered as an NGO in Kenya in March 2011.Tushinde works with vulnerable families in the informal settlements of Mathare and Kiambiu with a main focus on providing them with access to education, health care and social support. Tushinde is a child-focused employer and committed to child protection and the protection of vulnerable adults. The Senior Program Officer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing programs that align with our mission, ensuring sustainable impact and excellence in service delivery. Job summary- Senior Programme Officer Reporting to the program manager,the senior program officer (SPO) will be responsible for planning, budgeting , managing and coordinating the development , implementation,monitoring and evaluation of programs They are responsible for ensuring that programs achieve their outcomes and support the organization’s objectives Key Responsibilities: Project management Provide general support to the Programme Manager for Tushinde’s programme activities in Kenya, these include both Mathare and Kiambiu projects. Develop program work plans, budgets, and timelines in collaboration with team members. Monitoring annual work plans, program initiatives and budget development for different projects and activities Prepare , review and /or edit program/project progress reports to ensure quality and provide updates ,field reports to the program manager as appropriate. Support the Programme Manager to organise meetings/ trainings with partner schools and supporting them in developing the child protection policy. Organise and facilitate the Community Days, Boys Forums, Girls Forums, Holiday Camps and other events, as needed in collaboration with the Programmes Manager Work with the country leadership and Programme Manager to implement policies, standards of practice and guidelines with regards to Tushinde’s work with Tushinde Staff and beneficiaries. Support the Programme Manager in donor stewardship, develop appropriate and timely reports to donors that retain and deepen their support. Organise regular meetings with members of main projects, write activity reports and ensure follow up is carried through. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Lead Data management and Governance, Data Analysis and Reporting, with efforts to support and inform monitoring, evaluation and learning in the Family Support Programme. Monitor program progress against objectives and deliverables, ensuring timely and quality outcomes. Establish and maintain robust MEAL frameworks to track program effectiveness. Analyze data to inform program improvements and document impact stories. Prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders, including donors. Document and Maintain M&E database Stakeholder Engagement Build and maintain partnerships and relationships with program partners, such as non-profits, government agencies and community organisations, in order to expand resources, raise funding and educate the public about Tushinde’s work Foster partnerships with local government, NGOs, and community-based organizations. Support programme Manager and officers in partner engagements and other project activities Represent Tushinde at forums and meetings to advocate for children’s rights and program objectives. Team Leadership With the support from Country Director and Programme Manager delegate to new Programme Officers responsibility for coordinating engagement with partners Provide support as needed, the preparation and timely submission of detailed donor reports on project activities on a quarterly and annual basis in compliance with project requirements. Resource Mobilization Identify funding opportunities and support proposal writing to secure resources for program expansion. Support the program manager to maintain strong relationships with donors, providing updates on program milestones and impact. Essential Qualifications, skills and experience Substantial experience of project and program management with a strong background on managing risk, monitoring results as well as financial and budget management skills. ( Minimum 3- 5 years experience). Experience of delivering projects and programmes Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Development studies,M&E, social sciences and any other relevant area of studies(Masters degree is an added advantage) Experience in project implementation. Experience in fundraising and/or donor reporting will be an added advantage. Good communication, presentation, training and report writing skills. Fluency in the English language,both written and verbal Must have exceptional attention to detail. Strong organisational and time management skills, and ability to prioritise. Must be a self-starter and driven. Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google products. Must have a passion to work with vulnerable children, youth and adults. Must be able to work in a challenging environment, i.e. informal settlements. Must have a valid certificate of good conduct.
