THE PROGRAMME
The programme will offer the following to successful applicants:
· Learner Pre-screening: Pre-screening and selection of eligible learner pilots employed in the safety and security sector (excluding SAPS).
· Eligibility Assessments: Support for all assessments required before programme eligibility.
· RPAS and BVLOS Training: Preparation, training and assessment of employed learners on Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) (drones) and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS).
· Practical Licensing Training: Provision of practical training of learner pilots for a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) and BVLOS.
· License Facilitation: Facilitation of all assessments to obtain RPC Licence, including temporary licence where applicable
· Certificates upon successful completion: South African Civil Aviation Association Accredited RPC Licence; BVLOS Rating; Course Completion Certificate; Aviation Class III Medical; Restricted Ratio Telephony License; and English Language Proficiency Certificate.
TRAINING LOCATIONS
Training will take place in:
- Midrand, Gauteng
- Balmoral, Mpumalanga; or
- Durban, KwaZulu Natal
Cost Coverage: SASSETA will cover the cost of training, assessment and obtaining the licenses above. Employers are responsible for transportation, accommodation, and meals for their employees during training.
Programme Duration: The programme is going to be implement over a period of about 6 months, with training scheduled on alternate weeks to accommodate the operational needs of participating beneficiaries.
EMPLOYER ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be registered with SASSETA (SETA 19) at SARS or must be exempted. This registration is done when the business first registers with SARS by selecting the codes relating to SASSETA. Please check your EMPSA document (obtainable from SARS) to see the SETA registration.
- Companies with 50 or more employees must have submitted a WSP/ATR for the 2024/25 financial year by 31 May 2024, and it must have been accepted by SASSETA.
- Must have Valid PSIRA registration certificate, if operating in private security sub-sector or providing a security service as defined in the PSRIA Act.
EMPLOYEE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The following are the mandatory requirements that must be met by the nominated employees, to be considered for the programme:
- Must be South African citizen with valid proof of identification.
- Must be employed by the safety and security sector. Proof of employment will be required prior to approval of participation.
- Must be between the ages of 21 – 50
- Must be in a possession of a Senior Certificate (Matric) with a pass in Mathematics and English First additional language passed at 50% and above. Post Matric qualification that were completed with English being the medium of instruction will also be considered towards the entry requirements.
- Must be fit and in good health. Shortlisted applicants shall be required to undergo an Aviation Class III Medical examination.
BRIEFING SESSION
A non-compulsory virtual briefing session will be held to provide an overview of the programme and a platform for employer Q&A. Attendance is recommended.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Interested employers should apply through the SASSETA website, www.sasseta.org.za,. The following documents must be submitted with your application:
Proof of Valid PSIRA Registration certificate for the employer, for private security employers. This does not apply to employers from other sub-sectors.
Confirmation of the company’s Skills Development Levy. This can be any of these documents from SARS – EMP103, EMP201 or EMPSA

- The recruited Learners may not be entered into any other Learning programme funded by SASSETA in the financial year in which this programme commences.
- The final list of beneficiaries will be approved by SASSETA prior to admission to the programme.
- No late applications will be accepted.
- Nominees will be subjected to pre-screening as required by the Civil Aviation Authority prior to acceptance to the programme.
