Executive VP- Finance and Administration
Opportunity IRAP is an adaptive organization built to respond to rapidly evolving human displacement events. The organization collaborates with clients and partners to identify gaps in support for displaced people that IRAP is positioned to fill through its direct legal services, legal knowledge sharing, and systemic advocacy. With offices in the United States, Jordan, Lebanon, and Germany, and an extensive network of pro bono attorneys, student advocates, and partners, IRAP works to maximize the reach of its global legal assistance and advocacy. IRAP is looking for an Executive VP- Finance and Administration who will be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and will be responsible for providing thought partnership and strategic insight to the President and the Executive Leadership Team, serve as a global organizational leader and as an implementation partner to IRAP’s globally distributed team, providing strategic leadership for, and maintain the highest quality standards of, the Finance and Operations team – which consists of Finance, Human Resources, IT, and Risk, ensuring the fiscal and operational integrity of IRAP through working closely and directly with the President, the Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors (especially the Board Finance & Audit Committee), and taking on special projects as needed. The EVP-Finance and Administration will supervise the SVP- Human Resources, SVP- Finance, the Senior Director- Technology, and the Senior Director- Global Operations. The EVP-Finance and Administration will report to the President. Responsibilities Strategic & Organizational Leadership Partner with the President and Leadership Team to continue to develop an organizational environment and global culture of trust, respect, mutual accountability, reflecting IRAP’s values, mission and vision. Serve as an ongoing strategic advisor to the President, peer members of the Leadership team, and to the finance, human resources and information technology team leads to help evolve and implement the global vision for their functions. Partner with the President to set strategic priorities: for example, help identify areas of focus, and metrics for success. Revisit those metrics regularly and evaluate progress against them. Participate as a member of IRAP’s leadership team, and engage in work related to organizational planning, setting goals, budgeting, financial planning, monitoring progress, and evaluating results to ensure achievement of organization and project objectives, and of operating requirements. Mentor and empower a group of experienced professionals, entrusting and amplifying their work. Supervise and manage all aspects of global financial management and reporting, operations, human resources, information technology and risk management. In partnership and collaboration with the department leaders, guide a review of all formal finance, IT, and human resources related procedures, processes and administration, recommending improvements to systems as needed. Develop and simplify methods of operating that bring new practices for systems and policies, resulting in increased coordination across teams and elevated staff engagement. Develop and manage processes that lead to improved internal decision-making. Ensure processes and policies align with the organization’s global mission, goals, and values (i.e., in creation of strategies and work plans). Act as a key liaison with the Board of Directors, especially the Board Finance & Audit Committee, including attending all Board meetings with the President and engaging Board members around issues, trends, and changes in the internal and external operating environment. Manage cross-functional, organization-wide projects and initiatives; bring together important stakeholders and help drive decisions. Finance Provide strategic vision and leadership for the operational activities of the finance team, including annual goal setting processes and needs assessments. Ensure sound financial management and investment practices that support long-term financial stability, organizational growth, and community impact goals. Maintain oversight for the organization’s financial operations, including preparation of monthly financial reports and cash flow management. Clarify, translate and communicate financial documents to non-finance team members, and co-create financial reports with SVP Finance for management purposes. Ensure the SVP Finance has the support to implement, enforce, and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures. Partner with SVP Finance to ensure preparation of accurate financial reports including monthly reports to the President and semi-annual reports and analysis to the Finance & Audit Committee of the Board. In collaboration with the President and other members of the Leadership Team, lead preparation of the annual budgets. Lead the annual risk assessment process and the implementation of risk mitigating solutions to address new or increased risks. Manage the administration of all insurance policies. Oversee and manage all contracts, leases, and service agreements, including third parties, and vendors. Human Resources Provide strategic direction and leadership for the operational activities of the Human Resources team including annual goal setting processes and needs assessment. Support the creation of new systems and processes to streamline operations that promote staff leadership and effectiveness. In partnership with the SVP- HR, oversee annual review of HR policies including researching best practices in HR policy management. Partner with the HR team on the development of a compensation philosophy and the process and systems to annually evaluate staff performance and compensation. Support the design of an inclusive process for the continued development and implementation of core values including new ways to ensure employee engagement that inspires performance and organizational success. Information Technology Provide strategic direction and leadership for the operational activities of the IT team. Make sure IRAP has clear and robust IT related policies and procedures. Oversee IT needs and operational planning including, innovation, projects, and system updates, with the goal of ensuring systems are robust and able to support the delivery of the overall strategic plan of the organization and acceptable IT standards. In collaboration with the Senior Director of Technology, ensure the continuity and security of the IT network and systems through careful monitoring of the IT staff and oversee IT facility security, including audits and risk assessments. Stay current on issues and implement procedures related to cybersecurity. Qualifications Education A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. MBA, MPA, Master’s degree in finance, or other related advanced degree is strongly preferred. Experience 15+ years of experience leading in a global, nonprofit, mission-driven organization. 7+ years of team management experience in finance and operations. Significant work experience in multiple countries or regions and a proven ability to lead in a multicultural, multinational, multisite setting. Experience engaging in and/or working directly on forced displacement issues and migrant pathways (through personal lived experience as a refugee or forced migrant, humanitarian relief efforts, legal advocacy, or other relevant engagements) would be highly beneficial. Well-networked in the sector, possibly including boards or other advisory work, in order to leverage industry best practices and bring operational contacts (consultants, advisors, platform solutions etc.) to IRAP, as needed. High level of technical proficiency in information technology solutions including an understanding of accounting systems, grants management systems, operating systems, and cybersecurity. Demonstrated track record of combining strategic perspective with high quality delivery in project management, and analytical thinking and planning. Clear ability to collaborate with global colleagues around tasks, priorities, deadlines, and idea generation. A natural problem-solver who is analytical and structured in thinking. Ability to create order by identifying systems and processes in need of adjustment. A strong understanding of operations with a clear ability to synthesize information and recommend a plan of action. Outstanding communications skills and diplomacy, including the ability to listen to, relate well to, and inspire a wide range of people at all levels. A relationship-builder who demonstrates managerial courage, high emotional and cultural intelligence, is self-aware and perceptive and serves as a connector across the organization. Comfort with a dynamic workplace that may require periodic extended work or nonstandard hours. Fluency in English and professional proficiency in Arabic, German and/or the languages of our clients would be beneficial. Job-related Requirements The position is based in NY or DC. This position requires spending a minimum of twenty days in IRAP offices each year. This position requires frequent travels to all the locations of IRAP including but not limited to: Berlin, Beirut, and Amman (20% travel, including regular visits to each of IRAP’s offices). We believe candidates should be compensated based on the role and their qualifications, not their ability or desire to negotiate. For this position, the base salary range is $211,076 to $257,410. All of IRAP’s compensation for this role, including salary, benefits, and time off, are not negotiable. IRAP utilizes a step-based scale and all salaries at IRAP are determined on country level geographic location. The salary will be based on a candidate’s education, experience, internal equity and is calculated in a way that is transparent, and the chosen candidate will have an opportunity to provide additional relevant information at the time of offer.
