Introduction
Our client is a longstanding listed international services group that owns essential services businesses in the Falkland Islands and the UK operating across various activities including retail, construction, property, automotive, insurance, tourism shipping and fishing agency services.
The have a unique opportunity for an experienced Finance professional willing to take on a challenge and adventure to relocate to the Falkland Islands as Head of Finance.
The ideal candidate will hold a Chartered Accountant qualification (CA, ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with 5-8 years experience in a Senior Finance role ideally gained in a listed or holding company with multi-faceted businesses/operations, IFRS knowledge and experience and ideally exposure to UK Tax, particularly VAT and CT.
The position requires a hands on individual, with proven commercial acumen and ability to contribute to decision-making and experience transforming finance departments to ensure accurate and on time reporting of results through leading from the front and developing the capability of finance teams. Previous involvement in acquisitions, refinancing and experience of long term project accounting advantageous.
The ideal candidate should have effective communication skills enabling the individual to explain complex financial information to non-finance staff. Should be a self starter that is results/ task orientated, with attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent time management and organisational skills, commitment to continuous improvement and the ablity to work under pressure and with changing demands and priorities
The key function of the role is to provide commercial and financial leadership to a portfolio of businesses owned by the group, through the setting and delivery of strategic initiatives, active leadership of people and processes, a high level of stakeholder interaction and governance of the businesses financial reporting and compliance requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
You will provide finance leadership to the retail,construction, automotive and support services businesses. Working closely with the MD, Commercial Director and other directors the incumbent is expected to identify, analyse and implement opportunities to enhance business performance and partner with the leadership to team to add value to decision making and contribute to the implementation of the overall strategy.
Financial Leadership
Build and develop high level relationships with external agencies, including banks, key customers and auditors.
Positively respond to both internal and external customers through effective communication on a timely basis and personal accessibility/credibility.
Constantly seek to improve quality, service and efficiency. Contribute to the evaluation and development of the respective business strategies.
Identify, analyse, and resolve business risks, as well as opportunities and solutions to enhance business performance
Liaising with advisors, when necessary, to ensure that new initiatives are planned in a tax efficient manner for the group entities.
Create and own the financial strategy that will underpin the businesses future plans.
Identify future financing needs and engage with Group CFO in securing external finance
Lead and own the financial planning and analysis of the business delivering accurate budgets and forecasts within parent company timetables.
Prioritising efficient working capital management of the businesses, through management of stock, receivables and payables
Managing the loan book to both internal and external clients making sure the Group lends responsibly
Promote active management of costs through the relevant businesses
Finance Processes, Procedures and Reporting
Lead and deliver financial reporting, including monthly reporting, Budgets, and forecasts, ensuring deadlines are met.
Develop processes, systems, and infrastructure to support businesses and enable growth
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the monthly reporting. This includes proper monthly reviews of balance sheet reconciliations.
Develop financial models and/or analysis for new initiatives for delivery to internal or external stakeholders
Cash flow managing, owning the cash forecasting cycle and reporting of the business including a reliable 13-week weekly cash flow reporting cycle.
Weekly analysis and update of retail performance looking at transactions, price, cost and volume data. Sending out of the performance graphs to the retail director and going through the issues affecting the retail business. The Accounts Assistant updates the graphs from the weekly information sent out by the Retail Accountant.
Financial Governance
Ensure financial integrity of Balance sheet, carry out monthly reviews and ensure team are performing reconciliations
Accurate and timely preparation of annual financial statements in line with IFRS.
Support Annual audit process, ensure these businesses have a clean audit opinion and meet necessary timeline.
Meet all the necessary tax filing requirements for the respective businesses.
Ensure that at all times the businesses meet their finance covenant obligations.
Meet all Group Financial reporting requirements
Improving & documenting existing and developing new procedures to improve the control environment of the businesses.
People Management
Build lead and motivate a diverse and effective team. Empower team members to take responsibility and accountability.
Convey messages and ideas clearly and openly. Involve people and influence decisions.
Ensure regular appraisal, targets etc are set and necessary performance management is undertaken
Other
Any other commercial or financial tasks to support the operations of the CP business as deemed necessary.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Hold a Chartered Accountant qualification (CIMA, ACA or ACCA)
IFRS knowledge and experience
UK Tax, particularly VAT and CT advantageous
8+years PQE working in a similar sized business
Track record of achieving results through others
Proven commercial acumen and ability to contribute to decision-making
Experience of transforming finance departments into well controlled departments capable of reporting on time is essential
Involvementd in acquisitions, refinancing and experience of long term project accounting advantageous
Effective communication skills enabling the individual to work explain complex financial information to non-finance staff
Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
Results/ task orientated, with attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent time management and organisational skills
Commitment to continuous improvement.

Package & Remuneration
GBP 75 000 per annum negotiable on experience plus housing, medical cover, work permit and relocation assistance
Opportunity to gain UK citizenship after 3 years
